Wrestlers take four against Pointers

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer wrestling team fell to the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point on Thursday, 29-10, at Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers did manage to win three of eight regular matches and earn a victory in one of the two exhibition matches.
At 165 pounds, Gunnar Melstrand earned the first victory for the Pioneers with a 5-2 decions over his Pointer opponent. Grant Wedepohl also improved his seasonal record with a 10-2 MD in the 184-pound weight class. D'Andre Johnson continued his successful season with a 5-2 decision win at 285 pounds. The Pioneers then went on to drop the three lightest weight classes of 125, 133 and 141. Michael Belanger earned the final win of the night in a 174 pound exhibition match.
Thursday's loss was the second consecutive WIAC fall in the last two matches. The men will have an extensive break before they get a shot at conference redemption on Jan. 8 against UW-Oshkosh at Bo Ryan Court.
