Wrestling takes third at Max Servies Duals
The UW-Platteville wrestling team finished third at the Max Servies Duals with a 3-1 record on Saturday.
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team finished third at the Max Servies Duals with a 3-1 record on Saturday.
To begin the day, UW-Platteville topped Southern Maine, 25-21. Cole Ferguson pinned Lucas Dion at 125 pounds to give the Pioneers a 6-0 lead. UW-Platteville received a forfeit at 133 pounds before Chase Wiggins at 149-pounds pinned Zachary Stevens at the 2:25 mark, extending the Pioneers lead to 18-6. Cody Meyer earned an 8-0 major decision at 174 pounds over Aaron Weiss to give the Pioneers a 22-12 advantage. With just a one-point difference, 22-21, going into the 285-pound match, Brandon Boyle delivered a 6-2 decision over Mike Frey to seal the Pioneer victory.
UW-Platteville benefited from three forfeits in its second dual of the day, beating Ohio Northern's second team 39-13. The Pioneers only dropped two bouts in their commanding win.
UW-Platteville fell to fourth-ranked Wabash, 44-6. The bright spots for the Pioneers came at 125 pounds and 149 pounds. Ferguson toughed out a 3-0 decision over AJ Belden. Wiggins topped Patrick Parham 7-0 at 149 pounds.
The Pioneers topped Wabash's second team, 29-17, to take third place. Ferguson earned his second pin of the day over Devante Gray at 125 pounds. Mason Bohm pinned Mack Neal at the 6:22 mark at 149 pounds to give the Pioneers a 12-11 lead. The Pioneers closed out the match with five straight wins. Boyle capped off the day with a pin at the 3:25 mark over Mitchell Schwahn at 285 pounds.
UW-Platteville will host Augustana and Dubuque for a pair of duals on Thursday, Jan. 22 to finish off the home schedule.
