Four Pioneer Wrestlers place at Coe Open
UW-Platteville wrestling team totaled four place winners at the Coe Turkey Open on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team totaled four place winners at the Coe Turkey Open on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Trenton Larson, Cody Meyer, and Josh Cannon all finished in fifth-place in their respective weight classes, while Michael Cole took sixth at 184 pounds.
Larson opened his day with a 6-0 decision over Missouri Baptist's Jacob Virtue, and then was setback by Grandview's Jacob Blackwell in the quarterfinals. The sophomore finished his day with a pin to win fifth-place at 165 pounds.
Meyer didn't start is day on the right foot, losing the first round, 15-6. He bounced back quickly winning two straight matches. He fell to Missouri Baptist's Andrew Carter-Johnson in the wrestle back semifinals, and finished his afternoon with a pin in the third period to claim fifth-place at 174 pounds.
Cannon took fifth in a light field at 197-pounds, which included a win over Missouri Baptist's Josh Glore in the quarterfinals.
Cole went 2-3 on the day at 184 pounds with both of his wins coming on pins and placed in sixth.
The Pioneers won't return to the mat until Thursday, Dec. 4 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire.
