UW-La Crosse downs Pioneer Grapplers
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team fell to UW-La Crosse, 44-0 on Friday night at Williams Fieldhouse.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team fell to UW-La Crosse, 44-0 on Friday night at Williams Fieldhouse.
The Pioneer found some bright spots at 125, 157 and 174 pounds.
Cole Ferguson almost put the Pioneers ahead early at 125 pounds, but was setback in overtime, 11-6 by UWL's Ryan Weinmann.
At 157 pounds, Gunnar Melstrand came up with a reverse in the second period to take a 2-2 tie into the final period. UWL's Derek Weinmann used his experience to put Melstrand away, winning 9-4.
Freshman Cody Meyer was another bright spot for the Pioneers, but fell to Alex Friedman, 5-0. Friedman recorded a take down in the first period and then tallied a three-point near fall in the second frame, 5-0.
The Pioneers returns to the mat on Thursday Nov. 20 as they host UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m. at Williams Fieldhouse.
