Ferguson and Holland Place Second at Will Abele Invite
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – UW-Platteville wrestling team finished sixth out of 13 teams at the Will Abele Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Ursinus College.
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team finished sixth out of 13 teams at the Will Abele Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Ursinus College.
Freshman Cole Ferguson and junior Austin Holland highlighted the Pioneers day with second-place finishes. Ferguson pinned Ursinus's Robert DeAnnunzio to start his day and toughed out a 3-2 victory over Ursinus's Christian Hoogheem in the semifinals. The New Lenox, Ill. native, fell to Ursinus's Chris Donalson, 7-4, in the 125-pound championship. Holland also started his day very well, pinning WPI's Justin Fahie in 1:12. The Dwight, Ill. native, dominated Oneonta's Jared Usher with a 9-0 victory before falling to Oneonta's NaQuann Cobb, 3-2, in the 174-pound title match.
Robbie Kerr at 157, Randy Wade at 165 and Sean Yaros at 197 rounded out the Pioneers top performers all going 2-2 for the day.
Oneonta took home the team title with 109 points followed by host Ursinus with 92 points. Naval Academy Prep School finished third (79.5) as Worcester Tech took fourth (70.5) and Hunter in fifth with 61.5 points. The Pioneers' 52 points was good for sixth place.
UW-Platteville will compete at the Wabash Duals in Crawfordville, Ind. and at the Flash Flanigan Open in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 12.
