Pioneers win second straight invite

GALENA, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's golf team was first of three scoring teams at the Clarke Women's Fall Invite over the weekend's competition at the Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Illinois.
The Pioneers led after one day of competition with a first round score of 336 and improved to a day two total of 324 to finish with a combined score of 660.
Sophomore Markie Ash finished in second place overall out of 21 golfers and led her team while tallying 79 strokes in round one and 83 in day two for a two-day-total of 162. Ash's score was one stroke behind Mound Mercy's Valarie Davidson who finished with a total of 161 strokes.
Junior Cortney Olson was right behind Ash in third place overall with rounds of 82 and 81 for a total of 163 strokes.
Senior Alysse Elko tied for fourth after two days, recording 83 strokes in round one and 84 in round two for a total of 167.
Rounding out the Pioneers' five was junior Kaley Mumma (92, 76) with 168 strokes and sophomore Riley Redell (98, 95) with 193 strokes.
Overall, four of the Pioneers finished in the top ten after two days of competition.
The Pioneers travel to Janesville, Wisconsin next weekend for the UW-Whitewater Invite Sept. 20-21.
