After Saturday’s first round of the Clarke Spring Invitational at the LaComa Golf Club in East Dubuque, Illinois, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s golf team is in first place by 20 strokes over host Clarke.
The Pioneers shot an opening round 348 for the first round lead and are led by Ellyn Subak and Kelsey Lieving, who are first and second with an 83 and 84, respectively. In the opening 18 holes, the Pioneers have recorded 26 pars, 10 more than any of the other four teams. Subak leads the field with eight and Lieving has seven through the first round.
Also for the Pioneers, Kellsey Welter is tied for fifth after posting an 88. Tricia Pawelski and Helen Wilson are tied for 11th after a 93 and tied for 22nd after a 100, respectively.
The five-team field will play Sunday’s final round at the Thunder Hills Golf Club in Peosta, Iowa.
