Pioneers headed to conference tournament
STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team clinched the #5 seed in the WIAC Women's Basketball Championship after defeating University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 68-54 on Saturday.
STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team clinched the #5 seed in the WIAC Women's Basketball Championship after defeating University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 68-54 on Saturday.
With the win, the Pioneers improve to 11-14 (5-9 WIAC) and the Pointers fall to 8-17 overall (4-10 WIAC).
The Pioneers trailed by as much as 11 points early in the third quarter but finished the game with a 30-8 run over the final 15 minutes of the game. The Pioneers shut out the Pointers in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 19 unanswered points.
Sophomore Maiah Domask led the team in scoring and rebounds with 17 and 10, respectively. Domask shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the field. Senior Kassie Hansen had 16 points on 54.5 percent (6-of-11) shooting from the field. Junior Rachel Enemdorfer had 10 points and six rebounds while junior Morgan Horstman led the team with four assists and four steals.
Playing in the WIAC Women's Basketball Championship for the first time since 2015, the Pioneers will travel to face #4 seed University of Wisconsin-Stout on Wed. Feb. 20 at 7 pm in Menomonie, Wis. The Pioneers swept the season series with the Blue Devils 2-0.
