Pioneers cruise to victory

The Pioneers (6-5) had 16 players log minutes in the defeat over the short-handed Lightning Bugs (1-9).
Junior Morgan Horstman scored nine points on 66.6 percent shooting (4-of-6) to lead the Pioneers to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter. Sophomore Caitlyn Tipton had three of her four assists in the opening period.
The Pioneers built a 35-13 lead at haltime before going off in the third quarter and outscoring the Lightning Bugs 26-4. In the third quarter the team shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from the field and 66.7 percent from 3-point range (2-of-3). The Pioneers had 17 rebounds in the quarter while the Lightning Bugs were held to just three.
Horstman finished with 13 points on 60 percent (6-of-10) shooting, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Sophomore Maiah Domask matched Horstman with 13 points on 75 percent (6-of-8) shooting, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.
The Pioneers host UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court in Williams Fieldhouse.
