Pioneers’ big second half not enough to match No. 19 Pointers

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team fell to the No. 19 UW-Stevens Point Pointers 67-54 on Wednesday in Stevens Point.
Freshman Morgan Horstman led the way for the Pioneers, who fell to 5-19 on the season. Horstman logged 12 points, six rebounds and two assists in the loss. Junior Elisa Bilderback was the high scorer with 13 points.
After a big Pointer first half, the Pioneers were down 41-19 heading into the third quarter.
The Pioneers came out of the break with a vengeance, with freshman Kassie Hansen scoring six points within the first two and a half minutes of the quarter.
After outscoring the Pointers 20-17 in the third, the Pioneers shrunk the margin to 19 at 58-39 heading into the final quarter of play.
Going on a 7-2 run starting at the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter, the Pioneers held UW-Stevens Point to nine points in the fourth, scoring 15 of their own to put forth a last-chance effort to close the gap, but fell to the Pointers 67-54.
The Pioneers return to action for their last game of the 2015-16 season at UW-Stout at 3 p.m.
