PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team will be returning five letter winners and introducing a number of new faces for the 2015-16 season. Last season, the Pioneers went 15-11 overall and 8-8 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, earning a fourth place standing in the conference and hosting the first home playoff game in program history.
After losing all five starters from last season in Taylor Lorbiecki, Rachel Cropp, Keeley Schulz, Alyssa Krajco and Stacy Clark, head coach Megan Wilson is leaning on juniors Morgan Hartman and Elisa Bliderback and a talented freshman class to lead the way this season.
"We have a tremendous amount of talent in our incoming freshman class," said Wilson. "We have added great height and athleticism to the roster with this class, and we are excited about their potential. However, we know that it will be a process of teaching them our system and making adjustments to the speed and physicality at this level."
Along with welcoming new freshman to the team, the Pioneers also welcome new assistant coach Alexa Tovella to the squad. Tovella comes to UW-Platteville after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at Edgewood College.
Wilson and the team are excited and hopeful for the new season. "It will be a season of ups and downs," said Wilson. "With youth, it's as much about getting better every day and competing at the college level as it is about wins and losses. Our focus will be to get better every day and compete. This will be a process, but we like what we see in what lies ahead."
The Pioneers will kick off their season against Ripon at Williams Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.
