Another tough road loss for Pioneer women

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team lost another tough game Wednesday night to the UW-La Crosse Eagles in La Crosse, 66-62.
The Pioneers and Eagles kept it close throughout the first five minutes of the game as an Alyssa Krajco layup tied the game at 10.
The women held the lead for the next six minutes, until the Eagles went on a 10-4 run to tie it back up at 21 with 9:05 left in the first period.
Mykaela Brandt created some separation as she hit one of her four three-pointers of the night to make it 24-21.
Brandt finished the night with a season-high 15 points, going 5-8 form the field with two steals.
The largest Pioneer lead of the first half came with nine seconds remaining, as Keeley Schulz hit both of her free-throws after being fouled, to send the women into the locker room up by seven, 36-29.
Stacy Clark was the first player on the board in the second period with an easy layup, but back-to-back successful Eagle possessions allowed the opponent to tie the game at 39 with 14:37 left.
After a Taylor Buckmaster layup broke the tie, 41-39, the Pioneers were able to maintain the lead until the 11:28 mark when the Eagles hit a three to take the lead, 46-45.
The Eagles held the lead until Clark tied the game at 56 with 4:50 left on the clock.
Clark finished with 15 points, going 6-14 from the field with two free throws.
After the Pioneers fell down by five with under a minute remaining, they had to play the foul and free throw game, but were unsuccessful as the Eagles ran off with a 66-62 victory.
The women conclude their regular season at home against UW-River Falls on Saturday.
