Yellowjackets sting Pioneer Women's Basketball, 75-71
A slow start by the UW-Platteville women’s basketball team doomed the Pioneers, as UW-Superior earned a 75-71 victory, Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – A slow start by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team doomed the Pioneers, as UW-Superior earned a 75-71 victory, Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
Junior Rachel Cropp led the Pioneers with 22 points and made a career-high five three-pointers on seven attempts. Alyssa Krajco netted 18 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, while Stacy Clark added 17 points.
Sally Linzmeier scored a game-high 26 points and was 12-for-18 from the field. She also recorded a team-best seven rebounds and seven assists.
The Yellowjackets scored the game's first 10 points, and took their largest lead of the half 27-15 with just under nine minute till halftime. The Pioneers used a four-minute 12-4 run to cut their deficit to two, 31-29. The Yellowjackets halted UW-Platteville's run and took a 37-30 advantage into the locker room.
The Pioneers managed to cut it back to four, 44-40, but a 10-2 run by Superior brought it back to a double-digit contest, 54-42. The Yellowjackets kept their lead in double figures for the majority of the second half. The Pioneers got as close to six points with 2:55 to play but couldn't stop UW-Superior down the stretch.
The Pioneers travel to No. 14 UW-Whitewater on Wednesday.
