Pioneers qualify 15 athletes to NCAA DIII National Outdoor Track and Field Championships
Platteville, Wis. – The Pioneers will be traveling fifteen student-athletes to the NCAA DIII National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio. Competition will begin Thursday, May 23 and conclude Saturday, May 25.

Qualifying from the women's track and field team, three Pioneer women will compete this coming weekend. Rachel Beuthin will throw shot put, qualifying with her season best throw of 13.77m (45-2.25) at the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Katie Wardinski will run the 10,000m run. Wardinski qualified with a time of 35:59.16 at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse. Johanna Meister qualified in the 800m run, clocking 2:13.19 at the NCC Gregory Final Qualifier.
Leading the nation in the 1500m, Zach Lee qualified with a time of 3:44.25 at the Eagle Open at UW-La Crosse. Lee also ran a qualifying time in the 800m, running 1:51.19 at the WIAC Outdoor Championships.
In the 110m hurdles, Charlie Gifford qualified with a time of 14.43 which Gifford ran at Drake Relays. Matt Hokanson qualified in the 400m hurdles. Hokanson ran 53.32 seconds at the NCC Dr. Keeler Track and Field Meet.
Hokanson was also a member of the 4x400m relay along with Alec Burcham, Zach Frei, Paul Rapp, qualifying with a time of 3:14.33 at the Augustana Midwest Twilight. Freshman 400m runner John Huntley will also travel to the national championships to serve as alternate.
Alexander Walechka, Ben Veverka, and Alex Girard all qualified in the discus. Walechka threw 52.71m (172-11) at the Augustana Meet of Champions. Veverka qualified with a throw of 52.50m (172-3) at the Eagle Open at UW-La Crosse. Girard marked a personal best throw of 50.68m (166-3) to qualify at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Meet.
Qualifying in the high jump, Noah Steiner broke the school record earlier in the season at the Loras Easter Mid-Week Meet. Steiner cleared 2. 10m (6-10.75) and holds the second highest mark in the high jump in the nation.
Senior Cody Faust qualified in the decathlon, scoring 6,701 points at the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Faust will compete in ten events during the two-day event of the decathlon.
