Competition Continues on Day Two of the 2018 Indoor National Championships
Birmingham, AL – Day two brought on more competition for the Pioneers at the DIII NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Cody Faust started day two of the heptathlon with a personal best time in the 60m hurdles. Faust ran the hurdle race in 8.79 seconds. The next event in the competition was the pole vault, in which Faust cleared 4.40m (14-5.25). In the 1,000m run, the final event of the heptathlon, Faust finished in a time of 2:52.39. Overall, the junior finished in 11th place with a total of 4,751 points. This national championship weekend marked the third consecutive heptathlon Faust had competed in during the 2018 indoor season.
In the women's shot put, sophomore Rachel Beuthin finished in 10th place. Her throw of 13.27m (43-6.5) left her just short of qualifying for finals. This was Beuthin's third time participating in the national championships.
The last Pioneer to compete this weekend was Noah Steiner in the men's high jump. Participating in his first national championships, Steiner cleared 1.97m (6-5.5). The sophomore finished tied for 13th place.
The national championships in Birmingham, Alabama concludes the 2018 indoor track and field season. The UW-Platteville Track and Field team will begin the outdoor season at the Ashton May Invite at UW – La Crosse on Saturday April 7, 2018.
