NCAA Championships: Day 2 Recap

GENEVA, Ohio – Day two of the NCAA Championships began with the second day of the men's decathlon and the highest finish a Pioneer has ever seen in that event.

Cody Faust headed into day two in 17^th place. He needed to deliver big gains on the second day to move up and he did not disappoint. Faust began the competition with the 110m hurdles in a personal best 16.48 seconds. He went on to make big improvements in the discus with over a ten-foot personal best throwing 35.18m (115-05). In the pole vault he made every attempt and tied his personal best of 4.20m (13-9.25) but failed to clear 4.30m (14-1.25). In the Javelin, Faust threw a big personal best of 51.07m (167-07), over a 15-foot improvement over his previous best. In the final event, he gave it all he had left to finish in 4:37.03. Faust was able to claw himself back to 9^th place and a final score of 6451 points, 3 points shy of his own school record. 

Megan Marotz completed the final three events of the Heptathlon. In the long jump she leapt to 5.34m (17-6.25). In the javelin Martoz threw 20.02m (65-8) on her first attempt but failed to throw further in subsequent attempts. She fnished with one of her better events, the 800m, in third with a time of 2:21.22. Marotz finished the Heptathon with 4503 points and a 12^th place finish.

Kyle Whaley competed in the shot put. His first round throw was 15.80m (51-10) but was not enough to move on to the finals. Whaley finished the day in 15^th place.

On the women's shot put Rachel Beuthin finished the day with a second round throw of 13.13m (43-01). Her throw earned her 18^th place overall.

Amber Williams competed in the preliminary round of the 100m hurdles. After clipping the final hurdle she lost her balance and stumbled across the finish line. Her time of 14.90 failed to advance her to the finals as she finished in 18^th place.
