Williams breaks Pentathlon School Record

WAVERLY, IOWA — Four track and field women competed at the Wartburg Select Pentathlon on Friday. Amber Williams claimed the win and school record in her debut multi eventer. The pentathlon is contested in one day over five different events.
The Lady Pioneers began the day with the 60 meter hurdles. Williams nearly matched her personal best with a time of 9.59. Teammates Megan Marotz and Megan Rouer also ran near their personal bests with 10.27 and 10.55 efforts.
Williams went on to win the high jump with a 5-5.75 (1.67m) clearance, a career best indoor mark that ties her for 10th in the national performance list.
Trailing by two points after two events, Williams maintained her second place with a 28-2 (8.58m) shot put. Williams took over the lead in her strongest event, the long jump, with an 18-3 (5.57m) leap.
Williams claimed the title in the final event with a second place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:39.19.
Williams won the pentathlon with 3348 points, finishing 123 points ahead of St. Thomas' Bailey Cook. Marotz, Rouer and Krysta Parson completed their first pentathlon with 2591 points, 2442 points, and 2202 points respectively.
After coming in nationally ranked first in the triple jump and second in the long jump, Friday's performances moves Williams into a third place ranking in the pentathlon.
Williams will be back in action on Saturday with the long jump. The pioneer's full squad will join Williams for the remainder of the Wartburg Select meet.
