Pioneers compete at Aston May Invitational Friday
The UW-Platteville track and field teams competed at UW-La Crosse at the Aston May Invitational Friday, April 3rd. Multiple Pioneers found a way to perform well despite the cold and windy conditions.
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville track and field teams competed at UW-La Crosse at the Aston May Invitational Friday, April 3rd. Multiple Pioneers found a way to perform well despite the cold and windy conditions.
Dan Arnold finished 3rd in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.84. Arnold's performance currently ranks him 13th in the Division III national qualifying list. At the end of the season, the top 20 men in each event will qualify to the national meet.
Freshly crowned Indoor All-American Garrett Riggs, a Junior from Burlington, Wis., jumped 15'1.5" in the pole-pault and is currently tied for 20th on the national qualifying list.
The men's 4x400m relay of Darren Hudziak, Alec Burcham, Greg Stribling, and Jason Henkins ran a strong race to finish less than half a second from the leaders. The 2nd place time is the 2nd fastest time in the WIAC this season.
On the women's side, Caitlin Thomson and Alyssa Iserman cleared 5'5" in the high jump and are currently tied for 6th in the national qualifying list. On the women's side, the top 22 individuals in each event at the end of the season will qualify to the national meet.
Five time All-American Amber Williams leaped to the top of the national rankings with her 39'5", triple jump. Williams is also currently tied for 2nd in the nation in the long jump.
The Pioneers host the UW-Platteville Invitational this coming weekend. This meet has historically been the D3 national meet of the week. Action starts on Friday night with the fast sections of the 5,000 meters.
