Track and field perform well at first outdoor meet
ST. Louis, Mo. – The women’s track and field team finished sixth and the men’s fourth at the Washington University Invitational, a national meet including more than 25 schools from around the country, on March 27 and 28.

ST. Louis, Mo. – The women's track and field team finished sixth and the men's fourth at the Washington University Invitational, a national meet including more than 25 schools from around the country, on March 27 and 28.
Junior sprinter Caleb Mertens took fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13 seconds to earn his team five points.
Finishing second in the 800-meter run, Darren Hudziak earned the Pioneers eight points with a time of 1:56.03, which was less than a split second behind first place. Less than two seconds behind Hudziak was teammate Jason Henkins with a sixth place finish of 1:57.36.
Another second place award was earned by Garrett Riggs in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.55 meters (14'11"), which matched the champion, but the athlete from Washington University took fewer attempts.
Kyle Whaley finished second in the shot put with a toss of 15.67 meters (51'5") and third in the hammer throw at 50.8 meters (166'8.25").
For the women, Amber Williams earned fourth in the 400-meter dash with a finishing time of 1:00.26 and first in the long jump with a leap of 5.71 meters (18'9").
Caitlin Thomson earned the women three points with a sixth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.79 seconds and 10 points in the high jump, clearing 1.60 meters (5'3"). Teammate Alyssa Iserman finished moments before with a clearance of 1.55 meters (5'1"), which tied her for second place.
The women's 4x100 meter team of Tess Burns, Kelly Provancher, Krysta Parson and Megan Rouer earned fifth pace with a combined time of 52.20 seconds.
Sophomore jumper Caitlin Hare took fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.06 meters (10".50").
The women earned their sixth place team award with 57 points and the men took their fourth place award with 69. Host Washington University took first in both the men and women's overall.
The Pioneers will travel to UW-La Crosse on Friday to compete at the 2015 Ashton May Invitational.
