Pioneers show talent at Pointer Tri-Meet
The Pioneers performed well against their WIAC opponents at the Pointer Tri-Meet on Saturday Jan. 24.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's and women's track and field teams performed well against their WIAC opponents at the Pointer Tri-Meet on Saturday.
Leading the men's field events was a Pioneers sweep in the pole vault by Garrett Riggs, Malachi Romportl and Matt Dwyer. Junior Riggs set the bar with a vault of 16-01.25 meters.
The men's team swept another event, the 800-meter run with Darren Hudziak setting the pace at 2:00.26. Hudziak was followed closely by Matt Wubben, who finished 52 seconds after, while Chris Czech rounded off the top three at 2:01.48.
Joel Walden finished first in the one-mile run with a time of 4:17.53, while teammate Jason Winchel came in third at 4:23.66.
In the men's triple jump Darrell Simms took second with a leap of 42-02.25 and Jacob Ostreng took third at 39-03.75
The top-two performers for the women's team came in the field events of triple jump and high jump with Amber Williams and Caitlin Thomson leading the way.
Thomson won with a leap of 5-02.25 in high jump, while Williams earned her medal in the triple jump at 39-02.25.
Kelly Provancher finished third in the long jump at exactly 15 feet.
Thomson also saw action in the 60-meter hurdles with a third-place time of 9.58 seconds.
Kiera Depies rounded off the evening with a time of 10:52.13 in the 3000-meter run, good enough to earn third-place.
The Pioneers return home for their next meet on Jan. 31.
