Rote sisters produce only hits in series loss to UW-Eau Claire
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Following a series sweep over the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday (10-6, 22-5), the Pioneers softball team dropped two against the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire on Sunday at Carson Park in Eau Claire.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Following a series sweep over the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday (10-6, 22-5), the Pioneers softball team dropped two against the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire on Sunday at Carson Park in Eau Claire.
The women managed to produce only two hits in each of the Bluegold contests, both by Rote sisters, Carley and Crystal.
A one run homer by Crystal Rote in the top of the second inning was the lone Pioneer score of the first contest against the Blugolds. Aside from the home run, Carley Rote was the only other Pioneer who managed to reach the bases off a hit as UW-Platteville was outhit 9-2. A Blugold grand slam in the fourth, followed by one run in the fifth ended the first game early as UW-Eau Claire won 9-1.
In a defensive battle UW-Eau Claire was able to produced one run in the second and third inning, while the Pioneers were held scoreless for the third time this season as they went on to lose the second contest, 2-0. Once again the two hits produced came from the bats of Carley and Crystal.
With a non-conference series against Loras College on Wednesday at home and a pair of series against WIAC foes UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point this coming weekend, the Pioneers are currently No. 7 in conference (2-10 WIAC, 11-23 overall) with six games remaining in the season.
