Pioneers Score Eight Times In Win Over Augustana
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team improved to 5-2-1 with an 8-0 win over Augustana on Tuesday night inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

The win is the fourth straight for UW-Platteville, with the offense leading the way once again. The Pioneers have recorded 19 goals over the past four matches and attempted 84 shots.
On the Pioneers controlled the tempo for much of the first half, attempting 11 shots in the first 30 minutes spending much of that time in the attacking third. Junior Jack Gentilli finally broke through in the 34th minute for his sixth goal in the past four games as he dribbled past two defenders and fired a shot to the lower corner. Sophomore Alex Wano was credited with the assist.
Freshman Ethan Dietrich netted his first career goal right before halftime in the 42nd minute coming on an assist from sophomore Lucas Godon who headed a pass into the box.
In the second half, freshman Danny Gutzwiller scored a pair of goals coming off set pieces to increase the lead to four. The first came in the 47th minute on a bending shot from a free kick on the left wing and the other in the 63rd minute on a similar free kick attempt from about 25 yards out.
Godon scored 14 seconds after Gutzwiller's second after he stole the ball from a Viking defender and beat the keeper to the right side.
Freshman Bryan Higgs scored his first career goal in the 80th minute after a perfect through-ball from freshman Henry Bowland allowed him to tuck a shot under the diving keeper.
UW-Platteville added two more goals in the final two minutes with Dietrich scoring his second goal in the game in the 89th minute coming off a long cross from sophomore Trevor Hudson. Higgs netted his second in the 90th minute after collecting a rebound. Sophomore Marcelo Garay was credited with the assist.
The Pioneers outshot the Vikings 33-2 and 14-1 in shots on goal. Gentilli paced the team with six shots, while Gutzwiller added four. Fifteen different Pioneers recorded a shot in the game. Freshman Seth Aiken collected the win in goal, stopping the long shot on goal.
UW-Platteville looks to continue its stretch of strong play when it travels to Central (Iowa) on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. match.
