PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team fell 2-0 Wednesday night in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium to the undefeated Simpson College Storm.
The Pioneers (1-1-1) powered through the pressure of the Storm (3-0-0) as Simpson held a 14-4 advantage in corner kicks on the night, but even with the advantage the Pioneers tallied seven shots to the visitor's ten.
With all, but one of ten shots on goal, the Pioneer defense tallied seven saves with six going to senior goalkeeper, Nate Miller who kept the Pioneers alive through the defensive battle while Miller's counterpart for Simpson, Jake Potratz, recorded four saves.
The Storm was able to get on the board early in the 18th-minute with an unassisted goal by Seth Bowman.
The Pioneers entered the half with a 1-0 deficit and soon fell to a 2-0 spread when a corner kick from Baraka Ellie in the 55th-minute led to a series of headers from Ricardo Ibarra to Ian Dean which ultimately found the back of the net in the frenzy.
The Pioneers take the next two days to adjust and return to action on Sunday, Sept. 8 in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer stadium when they take on Bethel University at 1 p.m.
