DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers topped the University of Dubuque Spartans 1-0 in overtime Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the No. 18 Pioneers improve to 8-1-1 while the Spartans fall to 3-10-0.
The day was filled with numerous opportunities until the Pioneers broke through late in the first overtime to take the lead and the win. Sophomore Teon Fountain had a late fast breakaway in the 96th with a shot off the post before it went in and ended the game.
The Pioneers held a 27-12 advantage on shots with nine on frame for UW-Platteville and five for the Spartans. The Pioneers also held the 11-3 advantage on corner kicks with the home Spartans totaling up 15 fouls to the Pioneers' ten.
Junior Nate Miller receives the win in goal and racked up five saves in Saturday's contest.
The Pioneers will turn around and host Dominican University Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. in Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium and recognize Sunday's contest as a cause game for the American Heart Association.
