PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Two men’s soccer student-athletes from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville have been named to the District 6 College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District team, an honor only few in the country hold.
Senior Caleb Sedlacek, a mechanical engineering major from Tiffin, Iowa, and junior Jon Stopple, an electrical engineering major from Elkhorn, Wis., were recognized for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
“These two guys are great role models for the rest of the team both on and off the field,” said Enzo Fuschino, head coach of the men’s soccer team. “They lead on the field by working hard and setting an example for everyone else, and in the classroom by carrying a heavy work load and a very high GPA.”
To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve on the team with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average at their institution. They also must have participated in at least 50 percent of the games throughout the season.
Student-athletes from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III were selected, along with those from NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
“I was not surprised a bit since I know they are top-notch student-athletes and how much work they put in to both academics and soccer,” said Fuschino. “They are both very deserving of this honor.”
