PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team will be returning 14 starters for the upcoming season, along with bringing in key freshmen to help replace a few impact players lost from last season, during which the Pioneers recorded an overall record of 6-11-3.
Coach Enzo Fuschino and the Pioneers will have a tough schedule ahead of them, with preseason ranked teams such as Loras College, UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh on the list of opponents.
The Pioneers will also be playing an exhibition game against International Education Center Japan on Oct. 25.
The Pioneers bring back plenty of experience in the midfield and on defense with senior defender Will Pretto and junior midfielders Caleb Sedlacek, Jon Stopple and Alex Bach. Scott Sibik, named to the All-Region team last season, will return between the posts for his senior season as goalkeeper for the Pioneers.
“I am cautiously optimistic for this season,” said Fuschino. “We have a good core of players coming back and a good group of freshmen who could make an immediate impact coming in.”
The team will open its season at home at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 1 against Cornell College.
