Pioneers' defeat Finlandia 8-0.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers men's soccer team shutout the Finlandia Lions with a score of 8-0 during Sunday afternoon's senior game at Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers (14-3-1, 3-1 WIAC) finished their regular season games on a high note with hopes of entering the playoff tournaments. The Lions (4-11, 0-4 WIAC) played with only nine men on the field, but that did not stop the fans from watching a game filled with action. The Pioneer players exemplified their individual skills on the field by dominating offensively. With seven goals in the first half, the Pioneers set the tone for the rest of the game. In the first five minutes, Brandon Chmiel bounced in a shot from a corner kick from Kyle Hoerter. Hunter McMahon scored the second goal with an assist from Chmiel in the 42nd minute. Chmiel scored his second goal of the game with less than 30 minutes left in the first half. The fourth goal was by Chris Brown with a through ball from Chmiel. Brown ran through the defense to score his goal in the goal box. With less than 25 minutes left in the first half, Cameron Weess scored his first goal of the game unassisted from a tipoff from the Lion's defense. The last two goals of the first half were scored within the last twenty minutes by Mbodje Sarr and Tenzin Tsenor. Sarr had a clean breakaway from and shot within the 10 yard line. Tsenor shot when he received a pass from Brad Streich when the ball bounced off the right goal post and sailed into the left corner of the goal. In the second half, the Pioneers laid off scoring goals on the eight-man team, but it did not stop them from taking multiple shots and protecting their own goal. Jared Bahn switched into goal for Ian Christensen with about 15 minutes left in the game. The Pioneers scored their eighth and final goal of the game with five minutes left with a header by Ahren Baumann. Tsenor took a corner kick and Baumann headed in the ball, his first goal of the season. The Lions had 12 saves from 20 shots on goal from the Pioneers. The Pioneers will now await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament pairings.
