Despite a 14 to 11 advantage in shots, including a 6-3 margin in shots on goal, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to host UW-Whitewater to begin WIAC play on Wednesday night.
The Pioneers, who fall to 4-4-1 (0-1 WIAC), in the loss were led by Richard Rowell, who had four shots and Jared Kuehl made two saves.
The Warhawks, who improve to 3-4 (1-0 WIAC), in the win, got the lone goal in the 14th minute when Kevin Kron landed a shot in the back of the net. The goal came just moments after a header opportunity by Mike Presser and a shot by Rowell that sailed wide.
UW-Platteville sought out the equalizer for the remainder of the contest and continued to challenge the Warhawks goalkeeper Aaron Sesselmann with shots. Among the shots was a header in the 32nd minute and a shot in the 67th minute by the Pioneers' Michael Prudisch that was saved by Sesselmann.
The Pioneers are back in action, at home on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m., when they host Finlandia.
