Pioneers set to face Capital at Augustana in First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-For the third consecutive season, three teams will represent the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship after regular season champion UW–Platteville, UW–La Crosse and UW Oshkosh earned bids into this year's field.
UW–Platteville (18–10) received an automatic bid into the 64-team event after winning the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) with a 70–57 victory over UW–Stevens Point on Saturday night in Bo Ryan Court.
Regular season WIAC champion UW Oshkosh (23–3) and second-place UW–La Crosse (17–9) claimed two of the 21at-large berths into the tournament.
Coach Jeff Gard's Pioneers, who are making the 12th NCAA appearance in program archives, won national titles in 1991, 1995, 1998 and 1999. With a 33-7 all-time national playoff record, UW-Platteville has the best winning percentage (82.5 percent) in NCAA III playoff history.
UW–Platteville will travel to host site, Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois where they will face Capital University (Ohio) (20–7) in a first round contest Friday night in the Carver Center. The winner will advance to play the winner of Friday's second first round matchup between Augustana College (24–3) and Aurora University (17-11) in the second round on Saturday night, also in the Carver Center.
The Pioneers average 72.9 points per while holding opponents to an average of 69.2 points per game. They are shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from 3-point land on the season.
Capital earned its spot in the big dance with an at-large bid and is joined in the tournament by two fellow conference members out of the Ohio Athletic Conference, Marietta (20-6) and Baldwin Wallace (20-8).
The Crusaders are averaging 80.1 points per game, while allowing 70.1 points per game. Austin Schreck (16.8 ppg, 3.0 apg), Caleb Cox (15.3 ppg, 10.3 rpg), and Joey Weingartner (15.2 ppg) will look to lead the Crusadors in their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2012.
