OSHKOSH, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team fell to the UW-Oshkosh Titans 79-72 on Wednesday in Oshkosh, falling to 10-10 on the season and 4-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Sophomore Matt Oestreich played well for the Pioneers, logging a game-high 18 points in the loss. Half of UW-Platteville's points came from the bench, with the help of freshman Robert Daux, who tallied 14 points, and sophomore Dan Lowe, who recorded 13 of his own.
After a fast start, the Pioneers and Titans were even at 31 with 17 seconds remaining in the first half before a freshman Colin Connelly layup with one second left put the Pioneers ahead 33-31 heading into the break.
With a back-and-forth battle continuing in the beginning of the second half, the Titans forced the gap to six, taking the lead at 45-39 with 15:54 left in the half.
After about seven minutes, the Pioneers fought their way back after an Oestreich three-pointer tied the game at 60 with 8:23 left in the game.
Unfortunately, this would be the last the Pioneers would tie with the Titans, as UW-Oshkosh went on a 5-2 run before ending the game at 79-72 in the Titans' favor.
The Pioneers return to WIAC action on Saturday to take on No. 2 WIAC-ranked UW-Eau Claire in Eau Claire at 5:00 p.m.
