Pioneers earn road win in Texas against McMurry
KERRVILLE, Texas — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s basketball team defeated the McMurry University War Hawks 69-63 on Tuesday at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. It was the first time the Pioneers have ever played the War Hawks.
KERRVILLE, Texas — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team defeated the McMurry University War Hawks 69-63 on Tuesday at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. It was the first time the Pioneers have ever played the War Hawks.
Junior Cory Vaassen and freshman Robert Daux both played well in the win, logging 14 points and six rebounds apiece for the Pioneers, who improved to 6-4 on the season. Sophomore Dan Lowe led the way in rebounds with 11 and also recorded ten points, earning his first double-double as a Pioneer.
With a strong 8-0 start to the game, the Pioneers suddenly found themselves down, the War Hawks quickly catching up and taking the lead with six minutes to go in the first half. After an end-of-the-first-half battle, the Pioneers were on top 36-28 heading into the break.
The Pioneers held their lead the entire second half, the largest margin at 12 points. With a couple free throws from freshman Colin Connelly at the end of the second half, the Pioneers sealed the 69-63 win against McMurry.
The Pioneers round out their trip to the lone star state against host Schreiner University on Wednesday, Dec. 30 in Kerrville, Texas at 4:00 p.m.
