PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- A big second half by Jim Stocki led the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team past UW-Stout, 75-56, on Bo Ryan Court on Saturday night.
Stocki scored 19 of his 23 points in the final 20 minutes and also totaled a game-high eight rebounds. Boston Johnson netted 12 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field, and recorded seven rebounds and four steals. Cory Vaassen was also 5-of-8 for a total of 11 points and registered five boards and three steals. Jake Manning rounded out the Pioneers' double-digit scorers with 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Pioneers held UW-Stout to 39.3 percent shooting in the first half, but only shot 41.4 percent to take a 31-28 lead into the half.
The Blue Devils never led in the second half, but made it a two-point game, 47-45, with 11:33 left to play. The Pioneers then went on an eight-minute 20-4 run, which was propelled by three 3-pointers by Stocki to take a 67-49 lead with 3:55 to play.
UW-Platteville's Wes Nemitz scored six of the Pioneers' final eight points to give the Pioneers their largest lead of the game 75-55 with 19 seconds left in the game.
UW-Platteville shot nearly 60 percent in the second half and only turned the ball over three times in the final 20 minutes.
The Pioneers ended the night forcing 14 turnovers with 10 steals, and limited Stout to 38.2 percent shooting.
UW-Platteville travels to UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
