DUBUQUE, Iowa – Jim Stocki led all scorers with a season-high 23 points to help the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team roll past Loras, 68-51, on Saturday night.
Stocki added four rebounds and three blocks to his 23-point performance. Jake Manning netted 14 points, while Cory Vaassen recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pioneers led the entire game and jumped out to a 12-2 lead. Loras were able to cut its deficit to four, 14-10, but the Pioneers stopped the Duhawks' momentum with a 9-2 run, taking 23-12 lead midway through the half. UW-Platteville kept a double-digit lead through the rest of the half and took a 36-23 advantage into the locker room.
The Pioneers made seven of their 13 field goals from beyond the arc and shot 50 percent from 3-point range. UW-Platteville held the Duhawks to 35 percent shooting in the opening half.
The Pioneers kept control of the game throughout the whole second half and led by as many as 23 points, 65-42, with 2:37 left to play.
UW-Platteville continued its strong defensive performance in the final 20 minutes and held the Duhawks to 33 percent from the field.
The Pioneers travel to North Carolina in two weeks, and will face off with Methodist on Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. local time and then against William Peace on Dec. 30 at 3 p.m.
