Men's Basketball downs Yellowjackets

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team forced a season-high 18 turnovers, as the Pioneers defeated UW-Superior, 76-62, Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
Junior Jim Stocki led the Pioneers with 17 points, while seniors Chas Cross and Eric "Skip" Gerber added 12 points apiece. Cross also tallied a career-high five steals and a game-high nine rebounds. Junior Jake Manning rounded out the Pioneers' double-digit scorers with 10 points and recorded six boards.
Bronson Byrne scored a game-high 19 points for the Yellowjackets, while Jarrod Peterson contributed 18 points.
The Pioneers earned a 24-12 lead with 9:22 left in the half, before the Yellowjackets went on a seven-minute 18-2 run, capturing their biggest lead of the game, 30-26. Layups by Gerber and Cross in the final two minutes of the half tied the game up, 30-30, at halftime.
The Pioneers scored 10 unanswered early in the second half to take a 40-32 lead at the 17:36 mark. UW-Platteville held off the Yellowjackets from making a run and took its largest lead of the day, 55-41, with 8:29 to play. UW-Superior never got any closer than eight points in the final eight minutes of the game.
UW-Platteville hosts seventh-ranked UW-Whitewater on Wednesday with tip off set at 7 p.m. Pioneer fans are encouraged to wear orange for Orange Out Night.
