Pioneers retain Battle of the Bridge trophy for another year
The Pioneers University of Wisconsin-Platteville will keep possession of the Battle of the Bridge Trophy after defeating the University of Dubuque 31-7 on Saturday night in Dubuque. The Pioneers, now ranked #22, Pioneers scored first on a 47 yard touchdown pass from Quarterback quarterback Tom Kelly to receiver Mitch Munda, and would never trail the entire night.

The Pioneers, now ranked #22, scored first on a 47 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Kelly to receiver Mitch Munda, and would never trail the entire night.
The Pioneer offense was lead once again by Kelly (Junior/Chicago, Ill.) with a 316 yards passing and two touchdowns. Kelly's favorite target on Saturday was Munda (Junior/Gurnee, Ill.) who hauled in nine receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown. The Pioneer rushing attack was responsible for two more touchdowns, Justin Johnson (Junior/Menomonee Falls, Wis.) punched in both scores and registered 80 yards on the ground.
The Pioneer defense shut down the Spartan run game, holding Dubuque to just 72 yards rushing on 28 carries. Linebackers Andrew Belken (Senior/East Dubuque, Ill.) and Marty McGrail (Sophomore/Plainfield, Ill.) were all over the field with 16 tackles. Belken forced a fumble as well with McGrail recovering. Defensive End Andrew Robinson (Senior/Arcadia, Wis.) spent the night in Dubuque's backfield with 4.5 tackles for a loss and also recorded one sack. The Pioneer defensive backs were able to limit Dubuque's passing game to 164 yards on 33 attempts.
The Pioneers will host #13 North Central on Saturday in a battle of top 25 teams. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
