Six baseball players receive WIAC honors
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team had three players named to the 2019 All-WIAC baseball team: sophomore Jonathan Kelso, junior Josh Moses and senior Tyler Vogel. Two players were given honorable mention: sophomore Ross Krist and senior Keegan Madigan. Sophomore Hayden Hardyman was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team had three players named to the 2019 All-WIAC baseball team: junior Josh Moses, sophomore Jonathan Kelso and senior Tyler Vogel. Two players were given honorable mention: sophomore Ross Krist and senior Keegan Madigan. Sophomore Hayden Hardyman was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
Moses earns his second consecutive All-WIAC nod along with an honorable mention spot his freshman season. Moses led the team in several statistical categories including doubles (11), triples (4), homeruns (3), walks (32), on-base percentage (.497) and slugging percentage (.595).
Moses hit .364 on the season and was second on the Pioneers with 28 RBI. In his 36 games this season, Moses had multiple hits in 14 of them. He had four games with 2+ extra base hits.
Kelso earns his first All-WIAC appearance after receiving honorable mention his freshman season. Kelso led the team in batting average (.391), runs (36), hits (61), homeruns (3), RBI (37) and stolen bases (20). Kelso had ten doubles, two triples and was only caught stealing once on his 21 attempts.
Kelso had an 11-game hitting streak that began on March 2nd and lasted until March 31st. During the hitting streak Kelso hit .479 (23-of-48) including five doubles and 12 RBI.
Vogel earned his first All-WIAC recognition after leading the Pioneers with an ERA of 3.16 and 58 strikeouts (10.17 per 9). Vogel threw the second most innings on the team with 51.1 and finished with a record of 5-3.
Vogel's strongest appearance came on March 30th when he threw 6.2 innings without allowing any earned runs. He only allowed three hits while striking out 11 batters. Vogel earned the win in the Pioneers 5-2 victory in the WIAC Championship game against UW-Stout on May 10th.
Krist earns his first honorable mention recognition. Krist was one of three Pioneers to hit over .300 and finished with a batting average of .313. Krist had four doubles, 21 RBI and an on-base percentage of .409.
Madigan earns his first honorable mention recognition. Madigan went 4-1 on the season with a 3.78 ERA which was third best on the team. Madigan threw 47.2 innings and pitched two complete games. He finished the season with five starts of at least 7.0 innings.
Hardyman, the sophomore from Darlington, Wis., made his first appearance as a Pioneer in 2019. Hardyman played in four games in the season including three conference games.
