Pioneers go 0-2 in Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The UW-Platteville baseball team went 0-2 on the weekend and fell to Spalding 5-8 and Concordia Chicago 2-10 on Saturday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The UW-Platteville baseball team went 0-2 on the weekend and fell to Spalding 5-8 and Concordia Chicago 2-10 on Saturday.
The Pioneers fall to 1-4 overall on the season and the Cougars moved to 1-1.
Senior Caleb Kaufman got the start and took the loss in the first game against Spalding. Kaufman allowed a run in each of the first two innings and the Pioneers played catchup the rest of the way. Kaufman went 4.0 innings allowing 2 earned runs but managed five strikeouts.
Trailing 3-0 going into the top of the seventh inning, senior Mitchell Susa scored on a passed ball and senior Curtis Barsness scored on junior Collin Mormann's sacrifice fly to bring the score to 2-3. The Eagles responded with five runs in the bottom of the seventh to built a comfortable lead. Sophomore Brendon Reifstick and Barsness drove in runs in the eighth inning but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
In the loss to Concordia Chicago, the Pioneers matched Concordia Chicago's in the hits column but left 12 runners on base. Susa was on fire and finished 4-of-5 with a double and a run scored. Freshman Ben Espinoza was the only other Pioneer with multiple hits (2). Senior Scottie Gordon started and took the loss against Concordia Chicago.
The game scheduled for Sunday was cancelled due to weather. The Pioneers have a break until they travel to Seguin, Texas for a 3-game series against Texas Lutheran on March 15 & 16.
