LA CROSSE, Wis. - It was a tough afternoon on the mound for the Pioneers, who gave up 24 combined runs in 17-1 and 7-4 losses at Copeland Park.
UW-Platteville (6-16, 0-6) kept within shouting distance through the first half of game one, but a crooked eight runs by UW-La Crosse (13-6, 5-1) in the bottom of the fifth put the Eagles up 13-0. Josh Moses drove in the Pioneers only run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth.
Brennan Kearney led off game two with a double to left field, and with two outs in the innings Moses sent a single back up the middle to give UW-Platteville their first lead of the day at 1-0. After the Eagles scored two in their half of the first and one in the third, a Brendon Reifsteck RBI triple and Kearney RBI single gave the Pioneers their second lead at 4-3. The lead wouldn't last however as UW-La Crosse was able to get three across with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.
Next up the Pioneers host a four game set with UW-Stout on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch each day is scheduled for 12 p.m.
