PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The Pioneers offense scored double digit runs for the third time in four games as they took down Edgewood 10-6 Monday afternoon in their first home contest of the season at Kendall Murray Field.
Mitchell Susa had his first career three hit game with singles in the first, third, and fifth innings. A double by Josh Moses in the third plated Susa and MJ Ranieri for the first runs of the game. An Eagles error and Brooks Chandler single scored two more runs in the third to give UW-Platteville a 4-0 advantage.
Moses cracked his second double of the game to lead off a five run fifth inning for the Pioneers. With two outs in the inning, Ryan Vogel doubled to center to score Moses and Collin Mormann. Cody Roush followed with a two run shot for his second homerun of the year. Three batters later Susa collected his third single of the game to score Ranieri.
UW-Platteville's pitching committee retired the first 13 Edgewood batters, and didn't give up a hit until two outs in the sixth. Shane Nolan and Tim Dobrik each threw two perfect innings, and Tyler Vogel followed with two shutout innings of his own.
The Eagles were able to put up three runs in each the seventh and the ninth, but their rally fell well short.
After a tough start to the season the Pioneers have won their fourth consecutive game to improve to 6-11. Edgewood drops their seventh straight game and falls to 3-11.
The Pioneers are scheduled to start WIAC play this weekend when they travel to UW-Stevens Point for a pair of games on both Saturday and Sunday at University Field.
