Baseball splits with Rose-Hulman, falls to Chicago
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The UW-Platteville baseball team capped off a weekend trip to Rose-Hulman with an 8-6 win against the host Sunday afternoon at Art Nehf Field.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The UW-Platteville baseball team capped off a weekend trip to Rose-Hulman with an 8-6 win against the host Sunday afternoon at Art Nehf Field. The win was a big response after falling to Rose-Hulman 20-3 the previous day.
Chicago University
In their second game Saturday the Pioneers squared off with Chicago (5-3). Offensively UW-Platteville collected 14 hits, including four from Jonathon Kelso and three each from Josh Moses and Brennan Kearney. The Pioneers took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth on singles by Moses and Kelso, and added three more runs in the seventh on Moses, Kelso, and Ryan Vogel RBI's.
Having been kept in check for the first seven innings, Chicago pulled within a run on a three-run home run by Josh Parks in the eighth. The Phoenix completed their comeback in the ninth on a walk-off home run by Maximiliano Larsen, giving the Pioneers the 7-6 loss.
Shane Nolan got the nod for his first career start in the matchup with Chicago and made the best out of his opportunity. After giving up a run in the first on a sacrifice fly, Nolan retired eight consecutive Pheonix batters. He gave up another sac-fly in the fourth, but followed with retiring four of the final five batters he faced.
Rose-Hulman - Game 2
The Pioneers finished off their weekend with an 8-6 win over Rose-Hulman (3-11), taking advantage of five errors by the host school. Kelso continued his strong weekend with three hits and four RBI, including a pair of RBI triples.
UW-Platteville took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and added a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. The Pioneers capped off their scoring with three more runs in the sixth, giving UW-Platteville an 8-3 lead. Rose-Hulman scored three of their own in the eighth, but Scottie Gordon forced a double-play and a groundout in the ninth for the win.
Tim Dobrik threw six strong innings in his third start of the season. The freshman gave up just three runs and struck out five for UW-Platteville.
The Pioneers head to Jackson, Mississippi this weekend four a four game series with Belhaven University, and finish the trip with a game at Millsaps College on Tuesday, March 27.
