PLATTEVILLE, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers in four games on Friday and Saturday in Stevens Point, including the longest recorded game since 1994 for the Pioneers.
After falling to Stevens Point 9-2 and 3-2 on Friday, the Pioneers came back with a vengeance for the third game of the series on Saturday. Junior Lucas Keller pitched an 11-inning shutout in the lengthy 15-inning game, including nine strikeouts as the starting pitcher for the Pioneers, one of the best performances by a pitcher in UW-Platteville history.
Junior Colin DeBoer and senior Zack Iverson both recorded two hits apiece in the loss, including a double by Iverson in the top of the 12th inning.
With the score stuck at 0-0 through 14 innings, it was a Pointer RBI off a fielder's choice that brought in the winning run to take the 1-0 victory against the Pioneers.
In the finale game of the series, the Pioneers couldn't seem to gain momentum, and fell to the Pointers 9-1, taking their overall record to 13-16.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, April 26 at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin at 1 and 3 p.m.
