Baseball falls, then comes back to split with Chicago
The Pioneers added both a loss and win to their overall record of 10-5 after losing to the Maroons 5-1 in the first game and coming back to win the second game 13-4.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team traveled to the University of Chicago to take on the Maroons on Sunday, April 3 in Chicago, Illinois. The Pioneers added both a loss and win to their overall record of 10-5 after losing to the Maroons 5-1 in the first game and coming back to win the second game 13-4.
In the first game, the Pioneers logged 11 hits, but those hits fell right into the gloves of the Chicago defense. UW-Platteville scored its lone run in the top of the fifth off a senior Evan Greco sacrifice single to the Chicago shortstop.
Senior Tanner Galeazzi played well for the Pioneers in the second game of the doubleheader match-up, logging five RBIs while scoring two runs himself to push the Pioneers to the 13-4 victory.
A tie game at 3-3 after two innings, the Pioneers had a huge third inning, recording six runs off a couple walks, a Galeazzi triple and a senior Zack Iverson double to left field to take the score to 9-3.
After a scoreless fourth, junior Colin DeBoer singled through the left side, bringing in one Pioneer to increase the gap to 10-3 in the top of the fifth. In the same inning, Galeazzi stepped up to the plate and doubled to right center field, bringing three Pioneers home to top off the scoring streak, the Pioneers up 13-3.
Chicago responded in the bottom of the fifth with one run, but it wasn't enough and the Pioneers took the 13-4 win.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, April 6 for the first home game of the season against Edgewood at Kendall Murray Field at 3 p.m.
