Pioneers name athletes of the week

Softball Pitching Athlete of the Week – Jess Butzen, Senior (Neenah, Wis./Neenah), Pitcher – Butzen pitched a stellar game against Beloit College as the Pioneers opened up their first home series of the season on March 26.  The senior faced 23 batters, only giving up five hits, while striking out seven, and walking none.  Coach Varsho said her determination at the mound was undeniable as she shut out the Buccaneers the entire game, leading the Pioneers to an 8-0 victory.  

Softball Position Athlete of the Week – Crystal Rote, Junior (McConnel, Ill./Orangeville), Outfielder – Rote went 4-for-6 in the Pioneers’ double header versus Beloit College on March 26.  The junior recorded three RBI for UW-Platteville.  In the Pioneers’ 8-0 and 9-7 victories over the Buccaneers, Rote had one walk and her batting average was .667.
