Samantha Birkicht Named Head Volleyball Coach
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has announced that the volleyball program will now be led by former assistant coach Samantha Birkicht. She was announced to the team as the new head coach Friday morning.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has announced that the volleyball program will now be led by former assistant coach Samantha Birkicht. She was announced to the team as the new head coach Friday morning.
Birkicht has worked as an assistant coach with the program from 2011-15. During her time with the program at UW-Platteville, Birkicht helped lead the team to three seasons with a record at or above .500, including back to back 21-win seasons in 2011 and 2012. Birkicht was described as passionate and enthusiastic, and as a coach who can recruit talent and get the best out of her players by Interim Athletic Director Mike Emendorfer.
Birkicht previously worked as a head coach at the high school level, where she led both Forrest Valley High School and Freeport Aquinas Catholic High School to conference titles as head coach. She also coached the Freeport Fusion club volleyball team.
Before her time as a coach Birkicht (nee Rogers) graduated from UW-Platteville with a physical education major and was also recognized on the high honors Dean’s List. She was one of the university’s first Tri-State Initiative students, coming to UW-Platteville in 2006. She previously attended Highland Community College, where she earned an associate of arts degree. Birkicht earned her master’s degree from Emporia State University.
