PLATTEVILLE, Wis. —The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Athletic Department announced a three-year agreement with sports gear wholesaler BSN SPORTS, which will supply the university’s varsity sports teams with exclusive Nike apparel, jerseys and equipment.
Prior to the July agreement, each team was responsible for finding and selecting its own suppliers and brands, leading to many logo variations and shades of the school’s iconic orange and blue colors. Interim Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Mike Emendorfer said this will lead to many benefits for teams and the department as a whole.
“We’re excited to bring the internationally recognized Nike brand to all of our UW-Platteville teams,” he said. “This partnership was established to better align the UW-Platteville athletics brand and identity across all of the Pioneer sports. We will have uniform colors and make use of the crossed pick axes which the university adopted in 2012 to help unite the athletic department look.”
BSN SPORTS, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, offers the university discounts in return for the teams to wear Nike. “We will have significant budget savings, enhanced customer service and billing with one single vendor,” Emendorfer said.
After surveying current student-athletes in 2015-16, the athletic department selected Nike as the exclusive supplier. Nike is already the most used brand across the 16 varsity teams.
“BSN SPORTS is very excited to continue its association with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and pleased to be the company chosen to service the university’s athletic department,” said Kurt Hagen, executive vice president for sales and marketing of BSN SPORTS. “We value this relationship and are honored to partner with such a quality institution. We certainly applaud and admire the achievements of the school’s student-athletes and recognize the quality coaching and administration that foster this level of success.”
“The university’s agreement with BSN extends to June 30, 2019. Our student-athletes will be very pleased with our practice and performance gear,” Emendorfer said. “We are even more anxious than usual to see the Pioneers in competitions in 2016-17.”
