Pioneers name athletes of the week

Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Morgan Horstman, Fr., G (Bangor, Wis.) – Horstman led the Pioneers to a thrilling 79-67 overtime victory against the University of Dubuque on Saturday.  The freshman scored eight of her 13 points in overtime, including a jumper 10 seconds into the extra session.  She then made the play of the game with 1:09 left when she blocked Emily Brinker’s post-up jump shot, grabbed the rebound and drew a foul.  For the week, Horstman averaged 12.5 points/game, shooting an almost perfect eight-for-nine from the free throw line.  She also averaged 7.5 rebounds and added six assists, two blocks, and three steals, as the Pioneers went 1-1 on the week.

Wrestling Athlete of the Week – Grant Wedepohl, Fr., (Reedsville, WI/Reedsville HS), 184 pound weight class - Wedepohl remained undefeated on the season, moving to 9-0 overall with a first place finish at the MSOE Invite.  With two pins and a major decision, Wedepohl scored important bonus points throughout the day to help the Pioneers finish in second place overall.
