UW-Platteville to induct four in Hall of Fame

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four former University of Wisconsin-Platteville all-Americans will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9 a.m. in Velzy Commons, Ullsvik Hall.

Earning inductions this year are:

• Barry Braganza '91, football
• Andy Paulsen '03, track and field
• Tyler Selk '03, basketball
• Corey Stelljes '04, track and field

Barry Braganza

Braganza earned two first team all-conference awards after leading the Wisconsin State University Conference in interceptions in both 1989 and 1990. He earned Second Team all-American honors by Football Gazette following his junior campaign. Braganza also lettered in track and field. The Wausau, Wisconsin (East High School) native earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and comprehensive business/economics in 1991. After serving as a graduate assistant for one season, he became a player and coach in the Swedish American Football League and helped recruit a number of Swedish players to UW-Platteville. He currently lives in Richmond, Texas and owns Braganza Consulting, a digital marketing company.

Andy Paulsen

Paulsen was a dual-sport student-athlete for four years, earning all-American honors in track and field and twice earning all-conference honors as an offensive lineman in football. He twice placed second in the NCAA Division III outdoor shot put, finishing runner-up in both 2002 and 2003. In addition, he was fourth in the shot put at the 2003 indoor national meet and eighth place in the 2003 outdoor discus. Paulsen earned three all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors by finishing in the top two of the shot put and was conference champion in the 2003 outdoor meet. He still ranks second in the school record books for the indoor and outdoor shot put and is third all-time in the discus. The Blue River, Wisconsin native earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 2003 and currently teaches in the Shullsburg School District. 

Tyler Selk

 Selk earned three first team all-conference basketball honors (2001-03), one of only four players to do so in Pioneer history. The forward ranks second all-time in both scoring with 1,621 points and rebounding with 818. He set a school record that still stands with 103 consecutive games started.  In those 103 games, he scored in double figures 83 times and recorded "double-doubles" in points and rebounds 26 times. Selk was a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches All-West Region Second Team selection.  A Randolph, Wisconsin native, Selk earned his Bachelor of Science in elementary education. He now lives in Waunakee where he teaches middle school math and science and is an assistant high school basketball coach.

Corey Stelljes

Stelljes was a four-time NCAA III All-American distance runner, twice in track and field and twice in cross-country. His most impressive accomplishment came in 2003, when he won the national 10,000-meter run in 30:09.44, setting a Pioneer record in the process. He was fourth in the 2004 10K run to earn national honors. Stelljes placed 17^th in the NCAA III national cross-country meet in 2001 and improved that to eighth in 2002. In addition, he was a three-time all-Midwest Region cross-country runner, with a top finish of six in the 2001 regional meet. Stelljes earned four all-WIAC honors, broke three school records and helped the cross-country team to qualify for national for the first time ever in 2000. The Altoona, Wisconsin native earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 2004. Post collegiately, he qualified for and ran in the 2008 U.S. Olympic marathon trials. He currently is a civil engineer for the City of Madison Parks Division.

The Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1972 by the Alumni Association to honor standout student-athletes, coaches and contributors.
